My Story

Kate Carlson ND, LAc  graduated from Bastyr University in 2009 and has been operating an independent private practice in Snohomish County for the last 13 years.  She graduated from Whitman College in 2000 with a dual major in Biochemistry and English Literature, and a black belt in Tae Kwon Do.

Before attending Bastyr, Dr Carlson crammed a lot of "living" in a few years.  She spent a year working in the UW Dept of Orthopedics Biochemistry Research lab and volunteering at HopeLink food bank before heading off for a series of experiences in Australia.  She spent six months traveling throughout much of New South Wales, Queensland and Northern Territory as part of an international cohort with an environmental conservation group, then returned for a shorter tourist trip to Canberra, the Snowy Mountains, Melbourne and Tasmania, and finally ended up studying at the University of Sydney for a semester.  Somewhere in there she spent a year as a Backcountry Trail Crew Leader with Montana Conservation Corps as part of Americorps.  In the 6 months before starting at Bastyr, she took advantage of an opportunity to work at the Everett Animal Shelter while spending a lot of time playing Ultimate Frisbee.

These days, Dr. Carlson spends most of her time taking care of others, if not her patients then her husband, two young boys, husky and two rabbits. While at the moment her non-working role is mostly driving her kids to activities and adventures, someday she plans to get back to international travel, martial arts, theater set-building and volunteer work.
